As things go, things are going well.
I’ve returned from the Mallorca trip with a severe case of being relaxed, and have to start making new plans. There has been one slight hiccup though… It turns out Manjas mother wasn’t all that impressed with the card in which I’d jokingly kidnapped her daughter. So I was ordered to appear before the family for the next family event, so that she could “first meet me and then kill me in person”. Unbeknownst to me, “That next family event” was today to celebrate Manja’s Grandmothers 75th birthday.
Sounds like fun! Said I, and we were off for a 1.5 hour motorbike trip to Manjas hometown for a family party starting with a banquet lunch. If you never hear from me again, her mother wasn’t joking after all…
I didn’t have any nice clothes ready to go (I KNOW! I was as surprised as you), so we dropped by a department store and quickly picked up a dress shirt on the way.
Even with that detour, we arrived just in time. I think that this is because I’m awesome at quickly making decisions (Manja picked the shirt when I couldn’t decide) and the Autobahn with no speed limit…. No comment from my passenger was sought on the latter 😉
It was a fun afternoon, where I got to meet Manjas family and didn’t get killed after all. I got to have lunch rather than being roasted as the main course, which was a pleasant surprise. As it turned out some of her family did think the card was funny, and I /think/ even her mother laughed at it a bit after all.
After lunch Manja showed me around some areas of her childhood before we went back to the grandparents place for dinner. Some more chatting and singing later, we headed back to Berlin. On our ride back we got to view an awesome panoramic sunset from the Autobahn, but unfortunately riding fast and taking photos are mutually exclusive at that speed. It was much cooler that night too, so we eventually arrived safe but somewhat cold… Like icicle level cold.
Oh, and yes. Given that this isn’t MY family, there’s a few less photos in this post 🙂
