We woke up around 6am and took our time getting ready for breakfast at 7. When we got there, we found out that breakfast service already started at 6am, so we could have gone even earlier. Ah well. Breakfast was nice though! I had the typical Tican breakfast of Beans, Rice, eggs and fried banana.

After breakfast we got kitted up for a day of hiking in changeable weather and headed over to the Volcano Arenal. It had erupted in 1968 and you can now hike the lava trails. We opted to take the somewhat longer route which would include a nature walk. We spent pretty much the entire day finding a range of critters from Insects to Birds to Monkey to some sort of jungle pig-like-thing right at the end. No idea what that was, and we were not quick enough with a camera to record it :/
Unfortunately we also didn’t spot a sloth today, but there will be many more days of sloth-spotting opportunity we hope 🙂

By the time we finished I realised that I had not hiked in a long while – I was uncharacteristically sore and tired! So we headed back to the hotel for a shower before hitting up the local township, famous for souvenir shopping. We’re both not massive Souvenir people, and we didn’t”t find anything which really got our attention. For dinner we tried out a local organic place, having had a bit of meat overload from the last few dinners. It was okay, but not awesome. We drove back to the hotel at dusk and got to see the sunset around the volcano, but unfortunately didn’t have great picture-taking equipment with us. Ah well!

Back in our room it was time to update the blog and sort the plethora of images we photographed today.
