In 2011 I took a stroll to Everest Base Camp

Bags!

So I can’t fit everything into one bag, so I’ve come up with a cunning plan: my Sherpa will only carry my daypack filled with a couple of light but large space things. Things like my sleeping bag, or down jacket. For all intents and purposes I’ll most likely carry the 15-odd kilo bag with the majority of my stuff myself. /IF/ the altitude doesn’t kill me.Also earthquake in India shook kathmandu pretty hard last night. Let’s hope that won’t change our plans too much 🙂

Hey, Look, a totally public post!

Hi Folks! If you’ve ended up here, there’s a good chance you just clicked the link on my FB page.>>>>If so, Welcome!>>>>Amongst other things, over the next 5 weeks this is where you’ll see updates on my latest craziness. I’ve decided to make this journal largely public again, so you’ll see more without even having to have an account and logging in and bothering about friend requests and all that.>>>>So for anyone who doesn’t know: I’m going to be trekking to Base Camp, Mt Everest, in Nepal. While it sounds like the sort of thing that I’d just do because it’s random and, well, AWESOME, this time around I’ve got to make special mention of my super-awesome family for sending me on this trip of a lifetime. Not that anyone could possibly miss this, but I love you all.>>>>I’m super nervous and super excited. I don’t know what to expect, especially regarding the altitude. Highest point in the trip will be 5545 meters at Kalla patthar (google it 😛 )>>>>I’ve been practicing by walking the waterfall gardens to Mt Lofty trek carrying 20L of water at least once a week for the last couple of months. For your non-science or math buffs that’s 20kg, aka 1/3 of my body weight. I’ve got this crazy idea that I’d like to carry my own gear on this trip. I’m a realist however and reserver the right to change my mind when I can’t breathe properly and struggle to lift my feet let alone a bag with all my stuff.>>>>I need to make some special mention here to the various folk who have spent their weekends training with me. First and foremost
